The San Diego Business Journal profiled Cast Capital Partners, the San Diego development and brokerage firm founded by Bret Morriss in 2022, and its $55 million experiential retail project The Cliff outside Las Vegas. The story traced how Morriss and Chris Clifford, who leads the firm's Nevada division, kept crossing paths before going into business together. Cast recorded $172.8 million in transaction volume in 2025, according to the paper. Clifford described the goal plainly: "I'm literally trying to take my favorite things from San Diego and bring them to the Henderson market."
According to the Business Journal, Cast bought the 10-acre former office site, a 100,000-square-foot, two-building campus, for $17.25 million in August 2023 and planned to invest about $38 million in the redevelopment with Partners Capital. Construction was set to start early in 2026, with a phased opening beginning in November and about 70% of the center open by the first quarter of 2027. Clifford said the City of Henderson initially did not want an outdoor bar, so he pointed to Rick Caruso's The Grove in Los Angeles and went on to secure an entertainment district overlay; the paper noted only six other similar zonings exist in Henderson. About 30,000 square feet was leased or under letter of intent to roughly 20 concepts, and Clifford expected about 40 tenants at full lease. Named tenants included San Diego-born The Taco Stand, Killer Whale Creamery and The Barista Botanist, plus anchor Arhaus, non-alcoholic bar Lyte House and wellness clinic Next Health.
Clifford told the paper that Southern California leads on adaptive reuse and that Las Vegas has few buildings suited to it. "It was a very hard thing to get the city council to understand what I'm doing," he said, adding that officials long assumed he would bulldoze the buildings. The article reported that Cast planned to take The Cliff's concept to other regions, including San Diego, and was setting up a Utah office.
